25th Concert of Colors, Detroit. 7-15-17

This year’s Concert of Colors at the UM Detroit Center and Max M. and Marjorie S. Fisher Music Center was a great time!  CD & the Strange Angels played on the Wolverine Outdoor Stage, along with Sumkali, Isis Damil, Chris Canas Band, DJ Alsultany, Don Was, and many others.  Many vendors and community organizations were lined along Parsons St. and inside the Fisher Center lobbies.  Lots of great music, art, and community building.  We were excited to be there!  Here’s a highlight:

CD & the Strange Angels Debut at Old Town Tavern, A2, 4/30/17

We’re excited to be squeezing into the Old Town Tavern in Ann Arbor on Sunday, April 30th @8pm.  This will be the first time I’ve played the Old Town with the Strange Angels, so there will be a bunch of new material as well as highlights from my previous two albums Innocent Things and Walls of Stone.  We’ll also toss in some bits from our David Bowie and Prince tributes from last year.  See you there!

Charlie Dentel: Prince Tribute

Hello All, below is some footage from our Prince Tribute last year.  Looking forward to seeing everyone in 2017!  The Dream Team of Alex Johnson, Rob Avsharian, and Serge van der Voo is growing wings and will be called Charlie Dentel and the Strange Angels henceforth, an original Charlie Dentel music experience.  For now, hear us at the Tap Room on September 1st @9pm, a First Friday event in Ypsilanti, MI.  More later!

Paying tribute to David Bowie @New Way Bar

The Charlie Dentel Band had a great night at the New Way Bar in Ferndale this April, joining Power Broker, Corndaddy, the Isotones, and Paul’s Big Radio to pay tribute to David Bowie.  Returning with a new, stellar lineup with my old pal Ahvram Novetsky on the drums, our old time partner in crime and guitar wiz Alex Johnson, and the sublime Serge Van Der Voo on bass, a grand time and remembrance was had by all.  Check out these videos of our versions of Moonage Daydream and Ashes to Ashes below.

Hey little Darlin’s, it’s been a long, cold, lonely winter, but I’m roaring back this summer.  I’ve joined a great Beatles Tribute act called Dig A Phony as the keyboardist and vocalist.  Their mission is to reproduce live the legendary recordings of the Beatles, down to the last handclap and vocal arrangement.  What a whole lot of fun!  Check out this video of Come Together.
